Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how TrapFinder collects, uses, stores and protects information when you use the TrapFinder mobile application, website and related services.

1. Information we may collect

Account information

We may collect your email address, account identifier, profile settings, province or territory, and information you provide in support communications.

Location information

With your permission, TrapFinder may use precise or approximate location to show your position, record Trap Runs, create waypoints and Trap Areas, associate field records with places, and provide location-relevant mapping, weather and regulatory context. Background location may be used when you deliberately record a Trap Run, subject to device permissions.

User-created field data

Information you create may include trap stations, trap types, target species, lure and bait notes, waypoints, Trap Runs, Trap Areas, journal entries, check status, trail cameras, cabins, bait sites, photos and other field notes.

Weather and regulation context

TrapFinder may request weather information for a location and store weather snapshots with field records. The app may also use your selected jurisdiction, zone or management area to display relevant regulations.

Purchases and subscriptions

Apple or Google processes purchases. TrapFinder and its subscription service provider may receive transaction identifiers, entitlement status, product information, renewal status and expiration information. We do not receive your full payment-card details.

Device and diagnostics

We may process device type, operating system, app version, notification tokens, login activity and technical diagnostics needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service.

2. How we use information

We use information to provide app functionality, synchronize field data, deliver maps and weather, manage subscriptions, respond to support requests, improve reliability, protect accounts and comply with legal obligations.

3. Sharing

We may use service providers for hosting, mapping, weather, authentication, subscriptions, analytics, notifications and other infrastructure. We do not sell your personal information. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or to protect users, rights or security.

4. Location & background tracking

Location permissions are controlled through your device. TrapFinder should only use background location for features that require it, such as an active Trap Run recording. You can stop recording and change location permissions in device settings.

5. Data retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain your account, comply with law and resolve disputes. Retention periods may vary by data type.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.

7. Children

TrapFinder is not directed to children under the minimum age required to consent to online services in their jurisdiction.

8. Your choices

You can manage device permissions and certain app data through TrapFinder and your device settings. For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@trapfinder.ca.

9. Changes

We may update this policy as TrapFinder changes. Material updates will be reflected by a revised effective date or other appropriate notice.
